Equipment

  • Crock Pot

Ingredients

  • 2 ½ pounds chicken legs drumsticks about 4-6
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • or any other spices of your preference.
  • 1 (18 oz.) Sweet Baby Ray’s Sweet’n Spicy BBQ Sauce.

Instructions

How to Make Slow Cooker BBQ Chicken Drumsticks:

  • The first step is to add the chicken drumsticks to the slow cooker. I decided to remove the skin of the chicken, but you can definitely keep it if you prefer.
  • Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, or any other spices of your preference. Whatever you use, make sure it complements your sauce choice. I kept mine simple. Give those chicken legs a good seasoning massage. Make sure all the drumsticks are coated with seasoning.
  • Then, add your preferred BBQ sauce. I use a whole bottle (18 oz.) and continue incorporating it until all the chicken is covered with the BBQ sauce. I prefer something that’s both sweet and spicy, like Sweet Baby Ray’s Sweet’n Spicy BBQ Sauce.
  • Next, add unsalted butter to the top and set the crock pot to the desired temperature. Cook on high for 4-5 hours or low for 8-9 hours, depending on the slow cooker, and trust the process. I assure you that you will not be disappointed. So simple—toss and go!

Notes

Tips to help you make the most out of your slow cooker BBQ Chicken Drumsticks:

NO PEEKING: Resist the urge to peek – keep the lid on so the heat stays inside the cooker.
CAN I PUT FROZEN DRUMSTICKS IN A CROCK POT? Yes, you can use frozen chicken drumsticks in this recipe. As long as the internal temperature of the chicken is at least 165- 170 degrees F.
Options: You can also use bone-in/ boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts or chicken leg quarters.
CHOOSING A SAUCE: In my opinion, BBQ sauce is the key ingredient that can either make or break a recipe. For those without any dietary restrictions, feel free to experiment with any sauce of your choice! I prefer something that’s both sweet and spicy or sweet and smoky. When it comes to low-carb living, my top pick for store-bought brands is G Hughes.
Safety: Chicken is fully cooked when it reaches an internal temperature of 170 degrees F (measured in the thickest part, not touching the bone). If you’re not sure if the chicken is fully cooked, use a meat thermometer to check the temperature.
Extra Texture: Once the juicy chicken has been slow-cooked to perfection. For a delectable crispy crunch, simply place it on a sheet pan and broil for a few minutes. When it comes to broiling chicken, it’s important to keep a close eye on it! it’s important to achieve a crispy exterior without burning them.
Liquids are not needed in this recipe. The meat releases a lot of juice as it cooks.
Leftovers: Store the cooked chicken in an air-tight container for up to 5 days
