Ingredients

  • 3 large avocados ripe
  • 2 Roma tomatoes seeded and diced
  • 1/2 red onion diced
  • 1/2 cup cilantro 1/3 bunch finely chopped
  • 4 tablespoons lime juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper freshly ground

Instructions

  • Begin by slicing the avocado in half lengthwise and discarding the pit. You can either tap the pit gently with your knife and twist it to loosen it (while protecting your hand with a towel), or you can slice the avocado into quarters and remove the pit using your fingers or a spoon.
  • Next, use a spoon to scoop out the avocado flesh and transfer it to a mixing bowl.
  • Then, mash the avocado to desired consistency. There are several ways to mash an avocado, such as using a fork, a potato masher, or a molcajete – a traditional Mexican mortar and pestle. In this recipe, I use a fork.
  • Lastly, squeeze lime juice directly over the top to prevent browning. Add diced tomatoes, chopped cilantro, and onion.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste, and stir just to combine.

Notes

How to pick the best Avocados:

Give the avocado a gentle squeeze: The trick to making perfect guacamole is using avocados that are just the right amount of ripeness. One of the best ways to choose a ripe avocado is by gently pressing the outside of the avocado. If there is no give, the avocado is not ripe yet. If there is a little give, the avocado is ripe and perfect for making this delicious Guacamole Recipe.
Have stems attached: ripe avocados should have stems attached, and you should be able to push the sides in slightly with your fingertips.
It’s best to avoid avocados that are overripe. Avocados that are excessively soft or squishy, or those without stems, are prone to browning on the inside.
