WATERMELON MINT LIME AGUA FRESCA
What is Agua Fresca?
One of my favorite drinks to have around is Agua fresca. Agua fresca is a non-alcoholic beverage that blends fresh fruit with water and sweeteners. The watermelon version is ideal during the summer months when watermelon is in season. It is the most popular drink in Mexico and other Central and South American countries.
One of the best ways to cool down on hot summer days is with one of the most refreshing fruits, Watermelon. This can be making a delicious WATERMELON BANANA SMOOTHIE, a Watermelon & feta salad, or this refreshing Watermelon Mint Lime Agua Fresca.
This delicious, fruity beverage will delight both children and adults.
Watermelon agua fresca is one of the most popular versions of this drink. There are plenty of other options that I will share with you this summer. So to pick up a great fruit to make this refreshing drink let me share with you a few tips on how to pick the best fruit:
Tips:
How to pick a perfectly ripe watermelon from the bunch:
Watermelon is a staple of summer cookouts and get-togethers. Picking out a watermelon at the grocery store can be a little stressful. Because I know how disappointing it is to get home and take your first bite, only to find out it isn’t good, I want to share a few tips for Picking a Good Watermelon that’s ripe and sweet.
Find the field spot: This is a yellow patch on one side of the melon. The stronger the yellow field spot, the more it is on the vine longer and is full of flavor. As a general rule, the color should be creamy golden or approaching orange, indicating a flavorful melon. You might want to go with something else if it’s white or pale yellow. White field spots indicate a lack of flavor in the watermelon.
Heavy for its size. The heavier it is for its size, the higher the water content, resulting in a sweeter watermelon.
Sounds are essential when deciding what watermelon to take home: First, gently tap your fruit and listen to the sound it creates. The fruit has more water and is likely riper if the pitch is deep and hollow. If your knock is higher-pitched and denser, it could mean that your peel is too thick and your fruit isn’t entirely ripe.
Stay away from shiny Watermelon: When the melon is shiny, it is underripe; choose a dull-looking watermelon.
LOOK FOR A DRIED STEM
Strong, consistent stripe pattern:
If you notice black spots on the melon, this indicates that sugar is seeping out and that the watermelon is sweet. Additionally, if you notice dots in a line (not a scratch), these are pollination points, and the more of them you see, the better. Avoid those with irregular bumps, dents, or cuts.
Buy watermelon when they’re in season: It’s best to buy your watermelon during its peak season, which lasts between May through September.
Now that we have a few tips on picking a great Watermelon, let’s cut the fruit.
How to cut a watermelon:
Always rinse and dry the skin of the fruit before starting to cut.
Use a large, sharp knife to cut through in a single cut.
Make sure you’re working on a stable surface and that the cutting board won’t slide as you work. One easy way to prevent this is to place a wet towel or paper towel under the cutting board.
Cut off each end of the watermelon, enough to expose some of the red flesh. turn the watermelon over to rest in one of the flat cutting off ends
Use the knife to cut the skin off the watermelon, working from top to bottom. Continue to work your way around the fruit until all the skin is removed and the red-pink flesh is exposed. Working from top to bottom, cut the watermelon half lengthwise and cut it into slices.
