A luscious glaze can make all the difference When adding that extra touch of sweetness and tanginess to your baked goods. While there are countless glaze variations out there, one that truly stands out for me is the homemade lemon cream cheese glaze.
Lemon Cream Cheese Glaze
When it comes to a lemon cream cheese glaze, the key is to strike the perfect balance between sweetness and acidity. The lemon zest and juice infuse the homemade glaze with its aromatic essence, imparting a tangy brightness that cuts through the richness of the cream cheese. The cream cheese lends a smooth consistency, making the glaze easy to drizzle and spread over your baked goods.
Making your own lemon cream cheese glaze is surprisingly simple and requires just a few simple ingredients.
Cream cheese (Softened) Using cream cheese, whether full-fat or low-fat, is ideal for making a rich and creamy glaze. The fat content in cream cheese contributes to its smooth texture and adds a luxurious mouthfeel to the glaze. When the cream cheese is softened, it becomes easier to incorporate into the glaze mixture, resulting in a silky-smooth consistency.
Can fat-free cream cheese be used? When it comes to fat-free cream cheese, it is not recommended for making glazes. Fat-free cream cheese is made by removing most or all of the fat content, resulting in a significantly different texture and flavor compared to full-fat or low-fat varieties. Without the fat, the cream cheese lacks the creamy richness that is essential for a luscious glaze.
Powdered Sugar – Using powdered sugar and not other types of sugar is the only way to achieve a smooth, silky glaze.
Milk – You won’t need much, and you’ll add more depending on how thick or thin you’d like your glaze.
Freshly squeezed lemon Juice – This will give so much flavor to your glaze!
Lemon Zest – Make sure to zest your lemon before juicing it!
Follow a few easy steps to make this Lemon Cream Cheese Glaze:
In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese, plain Greek yogurt, and powdered sugar.
Add the fresh lemon juice and zest and mix until the glaze reaches a smooth consistency.
If necessary add the milk to adjust the thickness or thinness of the glaze. You can also adjust the sweetness or tartness by adding more powdered sugar or lemon juice, respectively.
Once your glaze has reached the desired taste and consistency, allow the glaze to set for a few minutes before serving.
Drizzle it over your baked goods, such as cakes, cupcakes, or pastries.
and enjoy the tangy and creamy burst of flavor!
