How to make Dinner Rolls:
The first part of making dinner rolls and definitely the most essential is the science part of the dough The yeast. Wait, don’t get intimidated, is very simple. Let’s start with that.
In a mixing bowl add 1 ½ cup of hot milk. The milk is what activates the yeast and it’s important for the milk to have a temperature of 100-110°F (36.5 to 40.5 C).
Add 1 tablespoon of white sugar, and whisk to combine. Let it rest for 1 minute. Then, add 1 tablespoon of active yeast, whisk to combine, and let it rest for about 5-10 minutes or until a foam appears on the surface.
Add and whisk 4 tablespoons of unsalted butter (melted), 1 ¼ teaspoon of salt, and the rest of the sugar.
Next, add the all-purpose flour ½ cup at a time ( a total of 4 cups minus a couple of tablespoons save for later. ). This will make the process of kneading the dough much easier. If you have a stand mixer, don’t hesitate on using it. I wanted to give an alternative for those of you that do not have a stand mixer at hand at this moment, not to miss out on enjoying this amazing recipe.
Just getting to the last cup of flour the dough will get a little bit harder to mix. Switch to a very strong spatula or use your hands to continue mixing the dough in the bowl. If the dough sticks to your finger, continue adding the rest of the flour little by little as needed.
Add flour (1 teaspoon) to a clean countertop surface and transfer the dough. Use your hands to form a ball.
Then, in a large bowl spread some oil and place the dough into the bowl.
Cover with a clean kitchen towel and let it rest in a warm environment for about 1 ½ hr or until the dough has risen to more than half the starting size. I use my microwave for this.
Place the dough back on the countertop surface and shape the dough into an oval. Then, cut into three or four parts. Divide the dough into 24 -28 equal parts.
Shape them into balls and place them in the baking pan. Follow the same process as before. Covered them with a kitchen towel and place them in the microwave for about 30-40 minutes or until they puff.
Dinner Rolls
Bake in the oven at 350°F for about 20-25 minutes or until they showed a golden brown top. Remove from the oven, and immediately brush the top of the rolls with melted butter and Enjoy!
